La Comunità Italiana di Ubuntu, ha indetto il concorso ”Italians do artwork better”;
lo scopo di questo concorso è quello di scegliere 5/6 sfondi, e inserirli in un pacchetto .deb ufficialmente rilasciato da Ubuntu-it, contestualmente all’uscita di Lucid Lynx.
Qui sono disponibili le regole ufficiali del concorso.
Anche per Karmic Koala sono disponibili le custodie per i cd masterizzati con l’immagine ISO di Ubuntu nella sezione Download.

Tra le novità emerse all’ultimo Ubuntu Developer Summit di Dallas (16 – 20 Novembre 2009), c’è stata l’interessante proposta del QA Team, di far aumentare la partecipazione della comunità, ai vari test che vengono fatti per rendere il rilascio definitivo di Ubuntu il più stabile possibile (segnalando eventuali bug riscontrati durante i test). La sessione specifica è stata chiamata Increase community involvement in testing.
La comunità italiana di Ubuntu si è messa subito in moto, creando un primo gruppo di lavoro per concretizzarla;
abbiamo già testato le versioni alpha rilasciate fin ora, eseguendo vari test, quindi stiamo contribuendo a rendere Ubuntu sempre migliore .
Recentemente il gruppo ha lanciato anche il progetto Test portatili, in cui si focalizzano i test sulla compatibilità hardware dei portatili; per me è un’ottima iniziativa, perchè tramite questi test, è possibile segnalare eventuali bug, quindi la loro correzione, migliorando il grado di compatibilità dei portatili.

Rilasciata il 30 ottobre 2008 (qui c’è l’articolo a riguardo), il 30 aprile prossimo, Intrepid Ibex raggiungerà il termine dei 18 mesi di supporto; quindi come previsto, terminerà il rilascio degli aggiornamenti di sicurezza.
Per aggiornare da Intrepid Ibex a Jaunty Jackalope, seguite le indicazioni della seguente guida.
Inoltre nel Wiki di Ubuntu-it, ci sono alcune guide che sono state testate con Intrepid Ibex (e anche con i precedenti rilasci non supportati), e per essere ancora indicizzate, necessiteranno di una revisione a livello di contenuto, per essere certi che le guide in questione sono valide anche per i rilasci con il supporto in corso; in caso contrario saranno cestinate (quindi cancellate).
Se hai testato qualche guida da revisionare con un rilascio con il supporto in corso, aiutaci ad aggiornare le guide (per maggiori informazioni sull’utilizzo del wiki, c’è questa guida). Le guide segnalate per l’aggiornamento sono presenti nelle seguenti discussioni:

È uscita la terza alpha di Lucid Lynx, il prossimo rilascio di Ubuntu che uscirà il 29 aprile prossimo, come indicato nella seguente pagina.
Ricordo che la versione alpha è la versione di sviluppo di Ubuntu, che diventerà in seguito stabile.
Quindi non utilizzatela per un uso quotidiano, in quanto potenzialmente soggetta a bug critici che potrebbero portare anche alla perdita di dati.
Inoltre vi segnalo che è possibile testare le varie immagini ISO, facendo dei test case, segnalando eventuali bug, come descritto nelle varie pagine del Gruppo Test .

7.0.9-1 installed. This package was present in the Ubuntu archive by mistake
and was retracted, but because it has a later version number than the real
libmysqlclient16 package, the real package will not be installed
automatically on upgrade. To ensure that you have the official package
installed on your Lucid system and will receive security support for it
throughout Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, please run:sudo apt-get install libmysqlclient16/lucid
and follow the instructions.
